Donna Gardner, Yoga Teacher, Wilmington, N.C

DONNA GARDNER .., A GENTLE YOGA STYLE
By William Milligan M.D.

Donna Gardner has been involved with Yoga for forty years, beginning after a career as a ballerina. She found the dancing world very stressful and competitive, leaving her with a void and Yoga entered her life.

She has been working with Wilmington Yoga Center for ten years, mainly with the mature population, with many of her original students still with her. She also conducts retreats.

Her students will also find her teaching at the Unitarian Church on certain days.

Her journey from dance to Yoga began with her dissatisfaction with the former and her seeking a balance in her world. Dance she saw had physical limitations over time, with enormous wear and tear on the joints, tendons and muscles.

She began studying kinesiology, and worked with an acupuncturist to gain a better understanding of the physiology of yoga. Energy movement and breath work play a big part in her practice.

Over the years she’s found more yoga students are referred by their physicians for specific physical ailments, ex., hypertension, joint replacements etc.
After one Yoga session with Donna, I understand why her students keep coming back.

NAMASTE Donna...
